Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is similar to its predecessor, Galaxy Z Flip 3. In this article, we compare them and find out the differences. Galaxy Z Flip 4 is Samsung’s latest foldable clamshell smartphone and the cheapest. Arriving together with Galaxy Z Fold 4, it is a budget folding smartphone like its predecessor Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G.
The “folding smartphone” project is delicate and has found the right recipe; Samsung has decided to make only small improvements without distorting the entire project. However, the Z Fold4 has a more powerful processor, improved battery life and offers more satisfactory photographic performance in low light conditions, but it comes with a higher list price. So let’s find out the differences between Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs Galaxy Z Flip 3: The Price
Like many smartphones announced in 2022, Samsung’s foldables also came with a higher list price.
- Z Flip 4’s starting price is 1,149 euros for 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. It goes up to 1,199 euros for the version with 256 GB and touches 1,329 euros for the version with 512 GB of storage. Between the Black Friday offers and the physiological decline, it is now possible to buy it at lower figures, even below 700 euros.
- The Z Flip 3 arrived with a list price of €1,099 for the 8/128GB version and €1,149 for the top variant with 256GB of internal storage. Hence, a slightly lower positioning brings it to around 600 euros.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs Galaxy Z Flip 3: The Differences
Comparing the design of the Z Flip 4 with the predecessor Galaxy Z Flip 3, we can’t help but notice that despite all the improvements inside, these devices are practically identical in size. However, the design of the Flip 4 looks more refined. In particular:
- When open, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has dimensions equal to 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm for a total weight of 187 grams, and when closed equal to 84.9 x 71.9 x 15.9-17.1 mm.
- When open, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has dimensions equal to 166 x 72.2 x 6.9 mm for a total weight of 183 grams, and when closed equal to 86.4 x 72.2 x 15.9-17.1 mm.
The construction part does not change: both can count on the IPX8 waterproof certification and the protection of the Gorilla Glass Victus glass (in the Plus version on Z Flip 4).
The screens are also the same. The internal and foldable one is 6.7 inches, is made with Super AMOLED technology and features a 120 Hertz refresh rate. The external one is 1.9 inches and only displays some information and notifications but cannot be used for other activities.
The new leaflet has one point in its favor: the possibility of customizing the body with new colors thanks to the Bespoke variant initially introduced by Samsung on refrigerators. Also few changes in the photographic sector. We always find two rear cameras, main and ultra-wide angle, both 12 MP and a 10 MP front camera.
Despite the similarities, Galaxy Z Flip 4 can pull off more satisfying photos thanks largely to the integration of the new processor. If Galaxy Z Flip 3 is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor, its successor can count on the power of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
All this contributes to improving the general performance, photographic rendering and energy efficiency, thus ensuring a longer autonomy. In this regard, Samsung has also integrated a larger battery (3,700 mAh against 3,300 mAh) and enhanced the fast charging technology.
Z Flip 4 can be recharged wirelessly by cable at 25 watts and 15 watts. While the Galaxy Z Flip 3 recharges wirelessly via cable at 15 watts and 10 watts. There is always support for reverse charging at 4.5 watts. For the rest, the only other noteworthy difference is support for Bluetooth 5.2 for the latest arrival (5.1 for Galaxy Z Flip 4).
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs Galaxy Z Flip 3: Which One To Buy?
The differences between Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are few, but there are small improvements that ensure a better user experience by choosing the latest addition. It has a more powerful processor, longer-lasting battery and faster-charging capabilities, better night photography, and newer software.
Considering the price drop it has experienced, it is the best choice to make right now. However, if you want to save a little and prefer to buy Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G, you will still have a beautiful and powerful smartphone.
